It was overwhelming joy all through Christmas for the people of Onicha-Uku, the ancestral home of the Elumelus as billionaire business mogul, philanthropist, frontline Nigerian economist, banker and entrepreneur, Dr. Tony Elumelu, his exceptionally benevolent younger brother, famous politician and former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Ndudi Elumelu, spent the festive season with all the members of their families in their home located in Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State.
The Yuletide gathering further underscores the firm bond of unity, affiliation and purpose that exists among the Elumelu’s across generational strata as well as the family’s strong link with their Onicha-Uku and Delta State root.
As the day unfolded, the Elumelu brothers, their wives, Dr. (Mrs) Awele Tony Elumelu and Barr. (Mrs) Ada Ndudi-Elumelu, and their children made the season lovely and joyous for the people of Onicha-Uku.
In a remarkable display of generosity, Dr. Tony Elumelu, renowned for his outstanding success as Founder and Chairman of the Heirs Holdings, Chairman of Transcorp, United Bank for Africa (UBA) and founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) used the occasion to again touch lives by sharing Yuletide goodwill including 1,800 bags of rice to Onicha-Uku people. The gesture was a testament to his commitment to giving back to his community and uplifting the lives of those around him.
In the same spirit, Dr. (Mrs) Awele Tony-Elumelu, wife of Dr. Tony Elumelu and Barr. (Mrs) Ada Ndudi-Elumelu, wife of Rt.Hon. Elumelu also showered some women and widows with the sum of N10 million, providing them with much-needed financial support during the festive period.
The peaceful and hitch free sharing of the food items and money underpins the Elumelu family’s sense of organization, respect for all, tolerance and never-ending willingness and disposition towards ensuring the comfort, happiness and well-being of others. The gathering also featured recreations, bantering, prayers, thanksgiving to God and sharing time with relations and friends.
Speaking of the Christmas event Dr. Tony Elumelu said, “this is what Christmas is all about – sharing love, joy, and kindness with those around us” a position that was corroborated by his brother who stated that the Elumelu family was “grateful for this opportunity to give back to our community and make a difference in the lives of our people.”
For the people of Onicha-Uku, it was a Christmas that would be engraved in their memories; a reminder of the power of kindness, generosity and family.
