According to a report by Daily Trust, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has left the Government House in Port Harcourt, allowing the newly appointed Sole Administrator, Admiral Ekwe Ibas (rtd), to take over.
It was reported that Fubara departed on Wednesday morning, coinciding with the state’s transition following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency.
There was a tranquil atmosphere at the Government House, with three armored personnel carriers placed at the main entrance.
A security source indicated that all security personnel at the Government House had been reassigned, marking a significant change of guard.
“The governor left this morning, and the new administrator is expected to resume soon. Everything is calm for now,” the source mentioned.
Residents in Port Harcourt were observed going about their daily routines, showing no signs of unrest or disturbance.
This smooth transition aligns with President Tinubu’s emergency declaration on Tuesday, which cited pipeline vandalism and the failure of stakeholders to address the ongoing political crisis in the state despite multiple interventions.
The appointment of Admiral Ibas, a former Chief of Naval Staff, represents a notable shift in governance for Rivers State.
His role involves restoring stability and tackling the political and security challenges that have long affected the region.
As the new administrator prepares to assume his responsibilities, attention is focused on how the state will navigate this emergency period.
The current calm suggests a peaceful transition, but the challenges ahead will gauge the effectiveness of Tinubu’s actions in addressing the longstanding issues in Rivers State.
