Otirhue Charges LG Clerks, Legislative Officers to Remain Apolitical

Clerks and Legislative officers of the Delta State Local Government Service Commission have been charged to be apolitical and avoid stemming unnecessary controversies in the dispensation of their duties.

The Chairman of Delta State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Joseph Otirhue, gave the charge recently during the flag off ceremony of a two-day seminar on “Upgrading the Capacity of Clerks and Legislative Officers of the 25 Local Government Areas for more effective and efficient performance” in Asaba.

He urged them, as third tier of government to ensure that the machinery of administration was well oiled and in constant state of readiness to meet the needs of the elected Councillors and not to be found wanting during auditing of their job.

While advising the participants, he said the workshop was put up in line with the mandate of the Commission, to ensure that staffs of the various councils were equipped with the right tools and mental frame, adding that it was to ensure that the best contemporary management practice were employed.

Expressing gratitude, on behalf of the participants, the Clerk of the Aniocha North Local Government Legislative Arm, Mr Charles Anamati commended the Chairman and management of the Commission for mounting the training workshop.

Anamati said the training, which would recharge and refresh clerks and legislative officers, would go a long way to expose them in the line of their duties.

The workshop which was organized by the Commission in collaboration with Kevs Consults and Tours Ltd had the participants taken through lectures on, the Clerk and the Legislatives Officers as  drivers of the legislative process at the third tier of government  in Nigeria, Order Paper, Votes and Proceedings, Public Hearing and Motions, Standing Orders/Rules of Legislative Houses, amongst others.

With the Commission Chairman at the event was members of the Commission that included the First Member, Hon. John Greatman.
