As usual Senator Ovie Omo-Agege the Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate and his followers made too much noise about the decision of some disgruntled and out-of-use members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State to decamp. Although, Omo-Agege told those who cared to listen that members of the Delta Unity Group (DUG) were leaving the PDP to join him in the APC, it turned out that only a few known DUG members less than five in all actually attended the rally and decamped. The DUG was a belated political group that was formed to rival the more formidable Delta Political Vanguard and the members pretended that they were working for Chief David Edevbie who lost the Governorship primary election to Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
Before the rally, Omo-Agege was on the rooftop saying that a tsunami was going to occur in Delta State PDP. Not knowing the meaning of a tsunami, he said elsewhere that an earthquake was going to take place. His equally ill-informed followers described the DUG as the intellectual arm of the PDP. What a huge joke. A quick look at the DUG leaders showed a butcher who became a Local Government Chairman and later House of Assembly Speaker for some months. Another one was a former Lawmaker and Commissioner who can barely spell his name correctly. Another one was a disgraced former Speaker known to have hired people to write examinations and dissertations for him. So much for being an intellectual arm of the PDP. The pseudo-intellectuals that jumped around the DUG didn’t attend Omo-Agege’s DUG rally at Obinomba. It appears they are seeing clearly now. What is now public knowledge is the fact that key DUG members and core Edevbie and Ibori loyalists have decided to remain in the PDP, that was why only those who couldn’t generate or guarantee votes from their immediate families attended the rally.
What Omo-Agege thought was going to be a tsunami or an earthquake depending on the one that came to his head turned out to be an inconsequential movement. If the DUG was formed around David Edevbie and Chief James Ibori, both men and their closest followers stayed away from the rally. The few who attended are expired “former this, former that” who are angry that it is no longer business as usual with the Government in Delta State. Many of the names listed by Omo-Agege’s publicity team didn’t attend the event and it only shows failure from the onset. Not even a word came from Ibori or Edevbie. Those who spoke at the rally were Godsday Orubebe and Omeni Sobotie who have since lost political relevance even in their wards.
What has come to light is that the APC is desperate knowing that it would lose the elections at all levels. That is why Omo-Agege is making frantic efforts to see if he can sway PDP members to join his misadventure. Omo-Agege is double-dealing and those working with him do not know. He lambasts PDP in the daytime and secretly reaches out to its leaders at night asking for him to be readmitted after he must have lost the election in two months’ time. He knows that the APC’s time is up.
Part of what he said was that the PDP was going to be buried during the rally, but PDP members laughed because they know the man is fast becoming a jester. The PDP has a sense of identity and a place under the sun because it is Nigeria’s longest-surviving political party of all times and it has survived a vicious regime led by the APC and it is waxing stronger. Omo-Agege has left the PDP five times and he returned five times. He will return again when the APC must have collapsed and packed up. As everybody can see the PDP remains rock solid as none of its founding fathers have defected except Peter Nwaoboshi, Omo-Agege’s paddy, who is now languishing in jail for theft.
Delta State is a PDP State and no matter what Omo-Agege is saying there is no APC State that has done as much as Delta State. Delta State is among the five States that pay salaries up to date and the State is stable and secure. Delta State is among the three leading States in health, education, and infrastructure development. All other APC States except Lagos are owing workers months of unpaid salaries. Lagos is an exception because of its status as the economic capital of Nigeria. APC with all the horrible things it unleashed on Nigerians is no longer an option in governance. The time of the APC is up because the conspiracy that gave birth to it has run its course.
Two days after Omo-Agege made his dream wish of burying the PDP in Delta State, the party held a massively attended Presidential campaign rally at Asaba. The rally has been described as the most well-attended rally since the emergence of the present republic. If you threw up a pin it would not have dropped on the ground. Omo-Agege is now in shock, but he is still talking to his PDP friends about the need to accommodate him as from March because as he told them, they all own PDP together. The PDP is alive and strong in Delta State, and in Nigeria.
