The Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Health Monitoring, Dr. Michael Nwoko has said that the State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa is strengthening democracy at the grassroots with the successful conduct of the Local Government election in the State.
Dr. Nwoko stated this in an interview with Journalists on Monday 8th March, 2021, during the inauguration of the recently elected Council Chairmen and their Vice at the Cenotaph, Asaba, the State capital.
He noted that the successful and smooth transition of power to the newly elected Council Chairmen, their Vice as well as the Councillors is a clear demonstration of commitment by the Governor to the principles and tenets of true democracy.
Dr. Nwoko stated that the Local Government is the closest political and democratic institution to the People and all hands must be on deck by political actors and pro democratic individuals to bring about democracy closer to the People and also emulate the efforts of the State Governor to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
“I want to use this medium to appreciate the efforts of His Excellency, the Governor and the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) for the just concluded Local Government Elections across the State. You have indeed set a good Pace in democracy and effective leadership at the grassroots”
“Whilst congratulating the newly elected Council Chairmen and their Vice, I urge them to hit the ground running and bring about the desired reforms and development in their respective Local Government Areas, in order not to disappoint the people who came out en masse to support and vote them”.
