The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Health Monitoring, Dr Michael Nwoko, has said that the Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration in the State is keen in ensuring functional health facilities with a view to delivering quality, affordable and accessible health care services to all residents of the State.
Dr Nwoko spoke with Journalists recently in Bomadi after leading the State health monitoring team on monitoring and evaluation visit of health facilities in the riverine communities and other parts of Delta South Senatorial district.
He said the team has covered a lot of health facilities in Delta North, Central and south senatorial districts which included Bomadi LGA, in Delta south senatorial district, adding that they have been on monitoring and evaluation exercise round the state since Monday 23rd November, 2020.
On Monday 23rd November, the team visited Central Hospital, Oleh, Government Hospital, Aviara, Government Hospital, Uzere, General Hospital, Olomoro and Primary Healthcare Centre, Irri while On Tuesday 24th November, they were at the General Hospital, Burutu, General Hospital, Focados, General Hospital, Ogulagha, General Hospital, Ogbe Ijaw, Primary Healthcare Centre, Ogbe Ijor and Primary Healthcare Centre, Burutu.
Also on Wednesday 25th, Dr Nwoko led the team to visit, Government Hospital, Kiagbodo, General Hospital, Otor Udu, General Hospital, Bomadi, Cottage Hospital, Ogriagbene and Primary Healthcare Centre, Bomadi
“The Monitoring exercise is audacious because all residents of the State are entitled to quality health care service in line with the vision of His Excellency, Sen Dr Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta. As you are well aware, Governor Okowa is very keen in ensuring that all the health facilities in every nook and cranny of the State are functional to meet the health care demand of the people.”
“So the whole idea of the monitoring exercise is to monitor, evaluate and appraise the status of every health facility in the State and report promptly to His Excellency, so as to enable the Governor is abreast with the status of the facilities and immediately proffers solutions to the challenges observed.”
“In carrying out this assignment, we engaged the health care workers that is the medical directors, nurses and other workers, in interactive sessions in order to identify areas of challenge and advice them on strategy to adopt in other to enhance productivity.”
“For us to guarantee affordable, accessible and quality health care service in the State, in line with the vision of His Excellency, Sen Dr Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, the Governor of Delta State, monitoring and evaluation of the health facilities is necessary in order to identity areas of urgent attention and report promptly to His Excellency for immediate solution to the problems.
“His Excellency, the Governor, understands that healthy citizens build a healthy and Strong State, hence the Governor is very keen to revamping and repositioning the health sector, to enable it deliver quality, affordable and accessible health care service to residents of the State, this of course is a major corner stone of the governor’s Stronger Delta Agenda.” Dr Nwoko said
Also in an interview with Journalists, a member of the team, Dr. Patrick Onwuachi stated that the Movement was necessary and creates first hand opportunity for them to have interactive sessions with the individual hospital management staff, reawaken their consciousness and resolve to give their optimum services towards delivering effective, affordable and comprehensive health services for the actualization of the stronger Delta agenda of the Governor of the State.
“They now know it’s not business as usual, the awareness that our monitoring exercises will be staggered and more regular was also created. Our health institutions and the services they render will clearly be second to none in best practices in a short time” the medical Doctor assured.
On his part, Dr. Kingsley Amaihunwa stated that the monitoring and evaluation exercise within the Delta South Senatorial District was quite expository and successful, saying that it afforded the SSA on Health Monitoring the opportunity to identify the gaps hitherto in the health facilities both in the primary Healthcare Centres and secondary facilities.
“The SSA made frantic efforts to visit the hinterlands and the uplands to ensure that no part of the State is left out. The gaps identified In the cause of monitoring are discussed in an interactive session with the Medical directors and other members of the hospitals management board collectively, which when resolved will amount to a better health care service delivery in line with His Excellency, The Governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa’s Healthcare policy of stronger Delta Mandate.
“I want to use this opportunity to encourage the residents of communities especially the informal sector e.g the artisans, the market people and farmers to key into the State contributory health insurance scheme, which with just #7,000, a registration and coverage for one year Healthcare service can be achieved. I thank the Governor for creating the office of the Health Monitoring office, which was born out of the strong desire to make health care services accessible, affordable and effective in the entire length and breadth of the state”.
