The remains of late Hon. Eric Ekene Eziunor, Finance Supervisor in the Aniocha North Local Government, Delta State, has finally been laid to rest.
Late Hon. Eziunor was interred on Saturday August 5, 2023 at his home town, Obomkpa in the council area.
He died after a brief illness on Saturday July 22, 2023 at the age of 50.
His burial was sequel to a Holy Mass held in his honour at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Obomkpa. There was a valedictory sitting of the Legislative Arm of the Aniocha North Local Government, held also in his honour, at the Legislative Chambers, Issele-Uku.
The valedictory session which was witnessed by the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Kevin Okwechime, was presided over by the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Jude Okonkwor. It was also witnessed by former Councilors of the legislative arm.
The Holy Mass, officiated by the Parish Priest of the Catholic Church in Obomkpa, Rev. Fr. Francis Onwordi was attended by officials of the Aniocha North Local Government led by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Kevin Okwechime in conjunction with his vice, Hon. Princess Tina Amuamuzaim
It was also attended by the immediate past Chairman of the Delta State Civil Service Commission, Chief Nkem Okwuofu, the State Commissioner designate from Aniocha North, Hon Daniel Odinigwe Odigie, and the Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party in the area, Hon. Dr. Charles Ochei among others.
In his tribute, the Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Kevin Okwechime mourned the demise of Hon. Eziunor and described him as a man who dedicated the greater part of his life to the service of the Local Government.
Okwechime noted that as a two-time Councilor, past Majority Leader of the legislative arm and a member of the Executive arm of the Local Government, where he served as the supervisor in charge of finance until his transition to eternal glory last Month, late Hon Ekene Eziunor has contributed immensely to the development of Aniocha North.
“Hon. Ekene Eric Eziunor, in both Arms of our Government, sowed seeds of dedication, perseverance, hard work and discipline which immensely enhanced the course of local government administration.
“His virtues of team spirit, humility, deep sense of humor and exercise of faith in absolute dependence on God, are sources of inspiration to us in his every day public and private life.
“His demise is therefore a huge loss to us, but we thank God for the short, but impactful life he lived. He was indeed, one of a kind,” Okwechime eulogized.
The Council boss prayed to God to grant the soul of Eric Eziunor eternal rest and give the Local Government as well as the wife, the children and the entire family, the fortitude to accept the reality of his demise.
“When his immediate family look back to access the support of a Father, may providence be there for them,” the Council Chairman prayed.
In his address while presiding over the valedictory session in honour of the late Honourable Eric Ekene Eziunor , the Leader of the House, Hon. Jude Okonkwor, described the deceased as a very versatile, calculative and proactive grassroots lawmaker who he noted moved land mark motions while he was a member of the House.
Okonkwor maintained that his activities as a member of the House where he served as the councillor for ward 3 Obomkpa and a one-time Majority Leader, brought about enormous development in terms of revenue generation to the Government of Aniocha North.
The Leader further maintained that as a member of the legislative arm of Aniocha North Local Government, Hon. Eziunor fostered healthy synergy between the Executive and the Legislature as well as the Management of the Council.
He revealed that until the death of Eziunor, he was the Supervisor in charge of Finance in the local Government, where he helped in no small measure in the translation of the vision of the Hon. Kevin Okwechime’s led administration into reality.
The Leader while appreciating the good life, Hon. Ekene Eziunor lived; he admonished grassroots Lawmakers to remain resolute in pursuit of good governance and in protection of public funds, using the instrument of statutory oversight function.
“Hon. Eziunor Eric Ekene will be greatly missed by the family and Indeed Aniocha North Local Government. We pray God to give his family and us all the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and for God to rest his soul in his bosom,” Hon. Jude Okonkwor prayed.
In his homily, titled, “A call to know the overall vision of our existence and of the World”, the Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Obomkpa, Rev. Fr. Francis Onwordi admonished the congregation not to fear death, but to have holy fear before God, noting that death is a necessary end that must come to everyone.
While explaining that death remains a deterrent to sin, the catholic Priest said remembering death will always ensure a life free of sin, stressing that Christians should be watchful at all times, even as their focus, should be heaven.
“Death teaches us to be patient and wise, it encourages us to live a good life and strengthen us in our search of feature communion with Christ. It offers us overall vision of our existence and the world at large,” the priest said and explained that earth has no permanent place for the saints, but heaven remains their eternal home.
Fr. Onwordi prayed for the repose of the soul of Hon. Eric Ekene Eziunor and the souls of the faithful departed, saying that Hon Eziunor has completed his life existence on earth and has gone to rest in heaven, his permanent abode.
Also at the funeral was the President General, Obomkpa Progressive Union, Hon. Charles Ogedi who led executives and members of the Community Development Union to the event.
