The Delta State Government had commenced the rehabilitation of the Issele-Uku/Ubulu-Okiti/Otulu road from the Issele-Uku city gate to the Pilgrim Baptist Church, located at the centre of Issele-Uku, the administrative headquarters of Aniocha North, down to Otulu in Aniocha South Local Government Area.
The project which was attracted for the benefit of the people of Aniocha North by the Member representing the constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Engr. Emeka Nwaobi is being handled by the State Direct Labour Agency.
Hon. Nwaobi who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Works, was at the project site on Monday 4th May, 2020 for an on the spot assessment of the level of work.
Speaking with Journalists, Hon. Nwaobi said that the work which started in March this year with a three weeks completion mandate, was delayed as a result of the Covid-19 Lockdown, stating that the Agency has returned to site with a view to completing the project as scheduled, while expressing satisfaction with the level of work done so far.
“The road maintenance would have been completed by now if not for the lockdown which lasted for four weeks. The Agency, I am aware started work in March and with the pace of work as at that time they started, the project would have been delivered by now.
“It is a very important road to my people in Aniocha North that we wouldn’t allow further deterioration on it. For that reason we brought in the Direct Labour Agency to ensure that the needful is done and I think i’m satisfied with what they have done so far,” Hon. Nwaobi stated.
Also in an interview, the site Engineer for the project, Engr. Nikoro John, said that the project entails cutting and removing of the entire failed portions of the road, stone basing, priming and asphalting of the surface, stressing that the rehabilitation of the road was to safeguard it from further deterioration and added that they were doing their best to ensure the completion of the project for the benefit of the people.
