Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has said that his administration is on course and making substantial progress in socioeconomic, infrastructure and human capital development.
The governor assured that his administration’s multifaceted empowerment programmes would continue to fast track socioeconomic wellbeing of all Deltans, irrespective of political or religious affiliation, while advancing Delta through meaningful development, opportunities for all, realistic reforms, enhanced peace and security.
Governor Oborevwori gave the assurance at the opening ceremony of the fifth edition of Delta State Communication Workshop with the Theme – Advancing Delta: Strategies for Public Communication and Effective Media Engagement, on Tuesday, while assuring that his administration would continue to prioritize state and national unity, peaceful coexistence and social security for the people.
The governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza, stressed the need for sustained synergy between federal and subnational governments, pointing out that good politics and selfless service is about putting Nigeria first, while serving the people at different levels and capacity.
Oborevwori assured that his administration would continue to partner with the federal government, noting that President Bola Tinubu’s purposeful leadership through the Renewed Hope Agenda, is beginning to produce positive results, signs of gradual economic recovery signifying a new era of strategic national economic remodelling.
He commended the Director General of Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, for mounting the 5th edition of Delta State Communication Workshop, designed to enhance the skills and efficiency of media aides, while urging participants to take advantage of the 3-Day brain storming exercise to sharpen their skills for effective communication and reputation management.
Governor Oborevwori charged participants to pay adequate attention to trainers modules and group assignments, so as to be able to strategically deal with negative issues of fake news, disinformation, misinformation, and to step up effective crisis communication management.
“The very essence of the workshop is to enhance the skills and efficiency of media aides, social media influencers and media partners, so as to effectively project and disseminate the achievements of this administration,” he said.
Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, urged participants to be proactive and be good ambassadors of the state by communicating facts, be polite and reasonable in their official engagement with the public, noting that the Theme of the workshop resonates with expectations of government in public communication and media engagements by media aides, social media influencers and media partners.
Represented by the Leader of the State House of Assembly, Dr Emeka Nwaobi, Mr Speaker commended DG, State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, for mounting the capacity building workshop, being the 5th edition, and for his consistency in public communication as it relates to State information dissemination and effective articulation of government policies, programmes, and the numerous achievements of governor Oborevwori.
Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, took participants through the numerous achievements of the governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, as well as the legacy projects of the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, CON, noting that the combination of these mega projects symbolizes a new era of unprecedented infrastructure development and economic growth of the state.
He said governor Oborevwori awarded over 500 projects, especially in road infrastructure of nearly 1,500 kilometres in less than two years in office.
Delta SSG advised participants to be focused and acquire new communication skills that would enable them discharge their functions and assigned responsibilities as media aides, social media influencers and media partners, noting that the Theme of the Workshop resonates with government communication policy direction.
Dr Emu, described the Director General of Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, as a consistent and result oriented communication strategist, who frequently deploy quality time and intellectual capacity in dealing with multifaceted issues in his line of duty as Executive Assistant on Communications in the immediate past administration, and as Director General, Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, in this administration.
He thanked governor Oborevwori for being a media friendly governor, and for approving and releasing funds for the 5th edition of the State Communication Workshop designed to enhance the skills and overall efficiency of media appointees, social media influencers and media partners.
In the same vein, former Secretary to the State government, and now Director General, Asaba Capital Development Agency, Mr Patrick Ukah, former Commissioner of Information, and now Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine), Mr Charles Aniagwu, Commissioner for Economic Planning, Sonny Ekedayen, Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof Nyerhovwo Tonukari, former Commissioner for Information, and now State Chief Strategist, Dr Okunbor, Manager Communication, Government House, Mr Jackson Ekwugum, Permanent Secretary/Accountant General, Ministry of Finance, Mrs Joy Enwa, and several other guests at Delcom 2024, commended governor Oborevwori’s visionary leadership, numerous achievements, and for approving the continuity of the state Communication Workshop.
Earlier, the Chief Trainer, Prof Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika, thanked governor Oborevwori for the rapid implementation of his MORE agenda, saying that every smart government must invest heavily in building the capacity of media appointees and other stakeholders.
Prof Joyce Ogwezi of Dennis Osadebey University Asaba, and Dr Emmanuel Akpoveta of Delta State Polytechnic Ogwuashi-Uku, will be assisting Prof Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika at DELCOM 2024, from Tuesday 17th to Thursday 19th December.
