Ijaw People’s Association in London Honours Tompolo for Environmental, Economic Contributions

High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, widely known as Tompolo, has been recognized for his significant contributions to environmental protection and economic development in Nigeria.

The Ijaw People’s Association of Great Britain and Ireland awarded him with the prestigious award and certificate of recognition during the 76th Ijaw Day celebration, held at the Kevin Banquet Suite in London.

Tompolo, famed for his pipeline surveillance operations aimed at curbing crude oil theft, has played a crucial role in safeguarding the Niger Delta’s environment while also generating employment opportunities for the region’s residents.

His work through Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited has led to significant discoveries of illegal oil activities in remote creeks and on the high seas, effectively disrupting the operations of criminal elements.

The Ijaw People’s Association lauded Tompolo’s efforts in preserving the region’s natural resources and fostering economic growth. They emphasized the positive impact of his initiatives on local communities, noting that his operations have not only reduced pipeline vandalism but have also improved regional security.

Tompolo’s resolute stance against economic saboteurs and environmental polluters in the Niger Delta has been unwavering. “We are going to move into serious action, where we will stop all the illegal activities in the Niger Delta region. We need to do everything within our powers to protect our environment and our nation,” he declared, reaffirming his commitment to the cause.

The recognition from the Ijaw People’s Association underscores Tompolo’s achievements in reducing oil theft and enhancing security across the Niger Delta. His efforts have earned him widespread praise from various leaders within the Ijaw community.

Prof. Benjamin Okaba, President of the Ijaw National Council, commended Tompolo for his outstanding contributions to the Ijaw nation. “The reduction in pipeline vandalization and improvement in security are commendable.

“Tompolo’s operations have shown that oil theft is not solely a Niger Delta issue but involves external cabals. We are grateful for his efforts, and if we had more individuals like him, development would flourish,” Prof. Okaba remarked.

Bubaray Dakolo, Chairman of the Bayelsa Traditional Rulers Council, viewed the award as a call to action for excellence and leadership within the Ijaw community. “These awards are an encouragement for us to continue our efforts and set an example for others,” he said.

Jonathan Lokpobiri, President of the Ijaw Youth Council, highlighted the environmental benefits of Tompolo’s initiatives, advocating for him to receive a National Merit Award. “The reduction of illegal refining activities is gradually improving our environment. Tompolo’s efforts are deserving of national recognition,” Lokpobiri stated.

The awards ceremony not only celebrated Tompolo’s remarkable achievements but also reinforced his unwavering commitment to environmental protection and economic development in the Niger Delta region.
