The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Health Monitoring, Dr Michael Nwoko has described Health Insurance scheme as the gateway to affordable, accessible and quality health care service, urging residents of the State to enroll into the State contributory health insurance Scheme.
Nwoko said the establishment of the Contributory health insurance scheme by the Senator Dr. ifeanyi Okowa’s administration in Delta State is a great opportunity for the people to enjoy the best of health care services.
The Governor’s Aide who spoke with selected Journalists on Wednesday in his office at Asaba, the Delta State capital, commended the State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for his foresight in establishing the Delta State Contributory Health Commission to midwife the Health Insurance Scheme in the State, noting that residents do not have to worry about paying for the best health services as long as they enrolled into the Scheme.
“No Matter the amount of pressure on the health care facility, enrollees of the health insurance program are always given priority attention and service at the recipient facilities.
“Aside the special attention given to enrollees of the scheme in the facilities they are captured, health insurance helps enrollees to avoid out of pocket expenses, such expenses like the costs of obtaining hospital cards, consultancy fees and cost of laboratory investigations and drugs.
“We must continue to sensitize and encourage the people particularly those in the informal sector to enroll in the scheme in order to enjoy all the benefits offered in the package. We must let our people understand that Health Insurance is one thing that can change the dynamics of health care service in our State and Country at large, it is the watershed of health care delivery all over the World and the gateway to affordable accessible and quality health care service.
“So far, the rate of enrollment into the Scheme is very encouraging, as the total number of enrollees in the formal and informal sectors as well as the equity plan is put at 723,000.”
“The Primary, Secondary as well as Tertiary Health facilities in the State have been accredited by the Contributory Health Commission to provide health care services to enrollees of the scheme,” he stated
