The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Health Monitoring, Dr Michael Nwoko has described the Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as a man highly sensitive to the plight of the people.
Nwoko spoke to reporters in his office on Friday 10th September, 2020 following the news of the Governor’s directive for the immediate reversal of the salary cut of public and Civil servants in the State.
It will be recalled that following the global economic crunch resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic which negatively affected the National economy and the consequent sharp drop in revenues accruing to Delta State, the State Government, after due consultations with the Organized Labour, reversed from the new minimum wage already being implemented in the State to the old minimum wage.
The Salary Cut Policy affected political appointees and Civil Servants on Salary Grade Level 07 and above. The policy which took effect from July 2020 was intended to last until December, 2020.
However, following the hike in the pump prize of petroleum products and electricity tariffs, the Governor directed the immediate reversal of the Policy.
Reacting to this development, Dr Nwoko commended the Governor for his show of compassion and governance with human face, saying that the Governor’s action goes a long way to show him as a compassionate leader, highly sensitive to the plight of the people.
“The Governor understands that the upward review of the pump prizes of petroleum products and the tariff on electricity will impact the prizes of goods and services in the State hence he acted swiftly to mitigate such anticipated adverse effects on the State workers.
“This is governance with human face and the Governor should be commended for such compassionate display towards the wellbeing of the people,” Dr. Nwoko stated.
