Immediate past Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Ndudi Elumelu, OON, has expressed deep sadness and grief over the news of the demise of elder statesman and revered leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Chief Edwin Clark.
Chief Clark, a renowned Nigerian Politician and former Federal Commissioner for Information, passed away at the age of 97. His death was announced on February 17, 2025.
In a statement on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, Rt. Hon Ndudi Elumelu, described Chief Clark as a “beacon of light” and an ever-valiant voice of the people.”
Elumelu praised Clark’s fearless advocacy for justice, equity, and fairness as well as his commitment to democratic principles and the well-being of Nigerians.
The former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives noted Chief Clark’s illustrious career that spanned several decades, during which he held various prominent positions, including Federal Commissioner for Information, Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and Commissioner for Education and Finance in the Midwestern Nigeria and also a key figure in the establishment of the University of Benin and founded the Edwin Clark University (ECU) in Kiagbodo, Delta State.
He said as a champion of the Niger Delta region, Clark worked tirelessly to promote the interests of the people and to advocate for their rights, emphasizing his dedication, passion, and commitment to a better future for younger generations of Nigerians, even as he noted his demise has left a lasting impact on the country.
Elumelu, on behalf of his family and the people of Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, commiserated with the Clark family, the Ijaw nation, and the Government and People of Delta State, praying for Clark’s eternal rest.
