Eid-el-Fitr: Minority Reps Harps on Justice, Self-Control

The Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has felicitated Nigerians, particularly the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

In a statement on Monday, May 2, 2022, by the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, the Minority Caucus urged Nigerians, especially leaders at various levels of social and political engagements, to apply the blessings and lessons of the month-long fasting in the pursuit of peace and exercise of love, humility, honesty, tolerance, truthfulness, transparency and self-control in all their dealings.

“The Ramadan offers us great lessons in humility, honesty, justice, obedience to God, discipline, openhandedness, forgiveness, mutual respect, peaceful-coexistence, care for the less privilege and love for one another.

“Indeed, if these virtues are applied in our individual and collective affairs as a people, our nation would not be in its current social, security and economic quagmire.

“The time has therefore come for us as a people to redefine ourselves along the line of such virtues as that is the only way we can pull our dear nation out of the woods and return her to the path of peace, justice, equity, political stability and economic prosperity,” the Caucus said.

The Federal Lawmakers again, called on those behind the killings and acts of terrorism in the country to use the occasion of the Eid-el-Fitr as a turning point, saying that they should desist from such violent activities and unconditionally free their captives.

While congratulating Nigerians and wishing them happy Eid-el-Fitr celebration, the Minority Caucus charged Nigerians not to lose hope in the nation because of the hardship they currently face as a result of the misrule of the present administration, but remain optimistic as they await the answer in a democratic change of leadership in 2023.
