Edwin Clark University, Kiagbodo, in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State has come up with new high-yielding agricultural methodologies in fisheries and cassava production, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ugbolue, has disclosed.
The eight-year-old university has, in addition, concluded a breakthrough research into environmental and industrial chemistry, aimed at effectively dealing with environmental issues in the Niger Delta region, he said.
The VC made these disclosures recently at a press briefing, held on the institution’s campus in Kiagbodo.
Ugbolue said that the briefing was “specifically organized to celebrate the institution’s 25th position among 249 universities in Nigeria; 6th among private universities and number one in the South-South in the 2023 National University Commission ranking of Nigerian universities.
The VC enthused, “For Edwin Clark University, Kiagbodo, to be ranked 25th among the 249 universities in Nigeria is something to be proud of and the university is indeed proud.”
He listed the criteria adopted by the NUC for the ranking to include staff/student ratio, community service, linkages, research undertakings, as well as interface with other international varsities and government agencies, among others.
Turning to the management staff, the visibly elated VC declared, “There is a celebration for all of us on campus today, after the usual Wednesday Joint Staff Devotion. Your sacrifice and services to Edwin Clark University are fully acknowledged.”
He, however, remarked that despite the NUC ranking, the university would not rest on its oars, but would rather continue to strive to attain higher heights.
He said, “As management, we remain focused on providing the facilities for improved teaching, learning, and advancing the well-being and welfare of our staff and students.”
The VC noted with delight that the entire 27 programmes presently offered in the five faculties of the university “are fully accredited.”
He also lauded the increased student enrolment to 1,479 in the 2023/2024 academic session, all fully residential.
Informing that the university is presently fully funded by Edwin Clark Foundation, the VC appealed for support from agencies and stakeholders to further boost the institution’s academic curricula, as well as also enhance students’ and staff welfare.
