EDEVBIE MEANS MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN AND YOUTHS IN GOVERNMENT – FRED EDOREH

Following the disappointment trailing the unfortunate rejection of gender based bills recently at the NASS, the Peoples Democratic Party frontline aspirant for Delta 2023 Governorship, Olorogun David Edevbie, has asked the women of Delta State not to feel any worries about the actualisation of the affirmative action for the inclusion of women and youths in his administration.

According to his head of Strategic Communication, David Edevbie already has it settled in his agenda for the modernisation of the state.

“Right away, I can tell you that David Edevbie has committed to reserving 35% of all political appointments for women and 25% for youths.

“He believes that the composition of any government should reflect the people being governed. In this, he recognises that the women are more in general and voting population; that Delta boasts of a huge number of highly educated and experienced women professionals in public and private sectors, and deserve their rightful place in government.

“The 35% clearly means 9 commissioner positions for women in a cabinet of 25 and same proportion in other departments and agencies under his administration.

“His commitment to 25% for the youth is borne out his personal experience. Invited into government as a youth, he recognises that the experience he has garnered and the huge capacity for which he is widely accepted among Deltans as the most competent and best qualified to lead the State after our dear Governor Okowa, is by the privilege of working over the past 22 years for virtually all the Delta State Governors and at the Presidency as Principal Secretary to President Umaru Yar’adua.

“The Presidential Villa converges all the challenges and interests of various sections, segments and sectors of the country – from economy to security to regional, ethnic nationalities, international relations etc, all of which Edevbie helped the President to manage.

“As he brings this experience to bear on the modernisation of Delta State, he believes that it is equally important to prepare future leaders; that we cannot any longer continue to pay lip service to the cliche that “the youths are the leaders of tomorrow” without preparing them  for leadership. As such, the youth have to be deliberately and more significantly brought into government to enable them understand the workings, challenges and gather the needed experience for their future role.”
