The Delta State Government on Thursday 10th March, 2021, received 85,700 doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
Dr. Mordi Ononye, the State Commissioner of Health, led officials of the State Government to receive the State batch of the vaccine at the Asaba International Airport. The vaccines are to be distributed to the 25 Local Government areas across the state.
According to the Chairman, Delta State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Isioma Okobah, priority will be given to the administration of the distributed vaccines to all frontline workers, comprising healthcare workers both in the public and private sectors, in the first phase of the vaccination campaign.
General hospitals across the state will be designated posts for the vaccination of healthcare workers while temporary posts yet to be determined will be set up for other non-medical frontline workers, comprising the security and correctional forces.
Speaking further, the Chairman disclosed that the vaccine will be administered to people aged 18 and above and advised pregnant and lactating mothers to seek the counsel of their healthcare providers before seeking to be vaccinated.
