The Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Community Development, Comrade Roy Umunna is set with his sponsorship of the Idumu-Ogo Annual Unity Football Tournament in Aniocha North Local Government Area.
In his readiness for the football tournament, the Senior Special Assistant, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 unveiled and presented the tournament Cup, footballs and other kits to the Community Youth leader and officials of the competition in the Community.
The brief, but impressive ceremony was held at Idumu-Ogo Country home of Dr Ignatius Ezoem; former Provost of Federal College of Education, Technical, Asaba, who is also the President General of the Community’s Development Union.
Speaking at the ceremony presided over by Dr. Ezoem, Comrade Umunna said his gesture was In support of talent hunt, pursuant to fulfilling an aspect of the State Governor’s vision to keep Delta State ahead in all aspects of social and economic well-being as well as his administration’s human capital development efforts which he noted remains a major element of the M.O.R.E. Agenda.
He said the presentation of the football kits to the youths and officials of the Annual Unity Football Cup and representatives of the major quarters of Idumu-Ogo, was to get them busy in training towards preparations for the community’s football league tournament.
He further maintained that the presentation would finally help the committee to prepare and equip the youths for the median edition of the Aniocha North Chairman’s Football Cup competition that is billed to kick off on Friday, December 6, 2024.
Comrade Umunna congratulated the recipients and charged them to make maximum use of the kits by engaging and giving their best during the community’s football league, saying that the unveiling and presentation of the Championship Cup and the other kits should spur them to be good Ambassadors of the community and finally bring glory to the community by winning the Aniocha North Chairman’s Football Cup tournament.
In his remark, Dr Ezoem appreciated Umunna for his developmental efforts in the Community and said that his sponsoring of the annual community football competition would go a long way in fostering Love and Unity amongst the youths of the community in particular and the three quarters in Idumu-Ogo in general.
He warned against violence throughout the duration of the competition and assured that he will personally be with them as usual to ensure that the needful is done for the overall betterment of the people of Idumu-Ogo.
The presentation event was witnessed by the Representatives of the traditional ruler of Idumu-Ogo, the Community Youth leader, Chairman and members of the organizing committee for the Competition.
