Executive Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government, Delta State, Hon Kevin Okwechime has formally Inaugurated the Open Market Stalls built by the authorities of the council at Onich-Ugbo within the council area.
Okwechime on Friday June 23, 2023 handed over formally the Market Stalls to the traditional ruler of Onich-Ugbo, His Royal Majesty, Obi Agbogidi Victor Chukwumalieze in a brief, but colourful ceremony at Onich-Ugbo.
The event attended by the wife of the Council Chairman, Mrs Nkem Okwechime was witnessed by the wife of the traditional ruler of Onich-Ugbo, cabinet members of Onich-Ugbo Obi-In-Council, women based organizations as well as the Omu of Onich-Ugbo.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Okwechime appreciated the people of Onich-Ugbo for their unwavering support for the PDP administration in the State and the local Government as well as for voting massively for the party in the February and March general elections.
The council Boss maintained that his administration has continued to meet the aspirations of the people of Aniocha North in the provision of people oriented infrastructures, based on the resources available.
He noted that the building of the open market stalls in Onich-Ugbo was in fulfillment of his electioneering campaign promise to the women of Onich-Ugbo who he affirmed drew his attention to the deplorable State of the Market.
While stating that the over forty open market stalls will go a long way in meeting the needs of the market women in the community, the council Boss revealed that the health care needs of the people of the Local Government area has remained paramount, noting that his administration has continued to do the needful in the provision of assistance to the various primary health care centers in the area.
Okwechime further revealed that in keeping with the health policy of the Local Government, the Ugboba Primary Health Care Centre has been fully completed and will soon be inaugurated, even as he further revealed that his administration has commenced sinking of water boreholes in some communities with a view to providing clean water to residents of these communities.
The Executive Chairman used the opportunity of the event to appreciate the Police, the Aniocha North Vigilante Groups and other security agencies in the council area for the peace and tranquility existing in the area.
Hon. Okwechime assured that his administration will continue to empower the security agencies towards maintaining the peace and security in the area, even as he announced that the perimeter fencing of the Obomkpa Primary Health Care Centre, a project of his administration, will in a couple of days be completed and commissioned.
The Special Adviser to the Chairman, Mr Kiakenechukwu Okolie, gave an overview and scope of the Onich-Ugbo Open Market Stalls project and said it was a project very dear to the Council Chairman because of the urgent need of it by the market women of the community.
In his remarks, His Royal Majesty, Agbogidi Obi Victor Chukwumalieze, Obi of Onich-Ugbo, commended the Council Chairman and the authorities of Aniocha North Local Government for carrying out people based projects in the council area and said it was a great delight seeing the Onich-Ugbo Market, popularly known as afiata, re-constructed and extended with more open market stalls.
He prayed for the Council Chairman, pledged the continuous support and cooperation of the people of Onich-Ugbo to the Government of Delta State and that of Aniocha North Local Government and gave the assurance that the market will be properly used by the women for the well-being of the people of the community.
Okwechime and the wife were honoured and decorated with the famous akwaocha traditional attire by the women of the Community led by the wife of the Traditional ruler.
Later that evening, Hon. Okwechime was at the Aniocha North Council Secretariat in Issele-Uku where he inspected the performance of the solar street light stands mounted within the premises of the Secretariat.
He expressed satisfaction with the illumination of the entire council premises and said the project was embarked by his administration, not only to illuminate the council compound at night, but also for security purposes.
