Executive Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government, Delta State, Hon. Emma Bazim Chinye, has cautioned youths in the area against allowing themselves to be instigated into perpetrating wrongful acts. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare and well-being of the youths in Aniocha North.
The Council boss made this plea on Tuesday while addressing some youth leaders from four communities who had barricaded the Onicha-Uku road, preventing trailers from accessing the Mosra Energy Coal Mine in Ugboba.
Hon. Chinye had been in a security meeting with security chiefs and traditional rulers when he received news of the youths’ actions.
He swiftly intervened, accompanied by security chiefs, and urged the youths to desist from such actions. Hon. Chinye explained that his administration had been engaging with the coal miners to rehabilitate roads linking Obomkpa, Ugboba, Ukwu-nzu, Idumuje-Uno, Issele-Uku and Onicha-Ugbo as part of their social responsibility to the communities.
The Council boss revealed that the coal company had agreed to commence rehabilitation work on the roads in February. However, due to gully erosion at Ugboba threatening to cut off the Ugboba-Ukwu-Nzu link road, the company agreed to suspend the rehabilitation work until the palliative work on the erosion site is completed.
Hon. Chinye emphasized his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, stating that the coal mining company had agreed to impact the youths beyond road rehabilitation. He also acknowledged the support of UBA, RainOil, and Mosra Coal Mining Company in partnering with his administration for the betterment of Aniocha North.
“My vision to rebuild is to make Aniocha North Local Government Area better,” Hon. Chinye pleaded. “I need your support, and I will continue to engage with all the youths for the betterment of our Local Government Area.”
The youths apologized for their actions and promised to cooperate with the administration. Calm was restored, and the trailers were allowed passage to Ugboba
