The Aniocha North Local Government has commenced in full force the repairs of failed portions along the Issele-Uku Main Entrance Road from the Issele-Mkpitime junction to the Issele-Uku city gate by the Benin-Asaba expressway.
The Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Hon Kevin Okwechime was on site with some Council officials to supervise the repair works which commenced on Wednesday.
Workers were seen cutting and excavating the failed portions of the road from the St Paul’s Catholic Cathedral Church junction by Silverton Supermarket, even as residents were seen from every part of the Issele-Uku Metropolis desalting the drains, clearing and cleaning the environment in keeping with the directives of the Local Government on special environmental sanitation.
Rented trucks by the Local Government were seen being used to evacuate the massive debris from the drains to the local Government designated dump sites.
In a chat with Journalists, Hon Kevin Okwechime said that the Local Government was intervening on the road to save it from total collapse in this rainy season, saying the road which was constructed by the Delta State Government about six years ago was damaged last year as a result of heavy vehicular traffic on the road occasion by the closure of the Onich-Ugbo-Idumuje-Ugboko-Uromi-Abuja road.
He said over four major failed portions along the road have been discovered and mapped out for massive repairs, assuring that the project will be concluded within a period of 21 days.
While soliciting the support of residents towards the project, Okwechime commended them for coming out in their numbers to observe the special environmental sanitation within Issele-Uku, the administrative headquarters of the Local Government area.
He further assured that the authorities of the Local Government have made adequate arrangements towards evacuating all the debris from the drains within the metropolis by Friday this week, noting that with the desalting of the drains, flood water will be enabled.
Speaking with the project Contractor, Mr. Phillip Ifeanyi Nwabuisi disclosed the scope of the work and said that it entails cutting, excavation, stone base and asphalt laying of the failed potions, while assuring that the work will be delivered on time according to specifications.
With the Executive Chairman on site included the Supervisor for Works, Mr. Augustine Emeke Ozah, the Supervision for Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Eric Ekene Eziunor, Special Adviser to the Chairman, Mr Kaikene Okolie, and the Council Project Supervisor, Mr. Martins Anonyei.
