Empowerment: Aniocha North Legislative Leader Hon Okonkwo Presents Cash To Indigent Women

The Leader of the Legislative Arm of Aniocha North local Government, Hon Paul Chukwunweike Okonkwo has presented cash worth over four hundred thousand naira to over 30 indigent women in his ward.

Hon. Okonkwo who represents state ward 16, Idumu-Ogo and Ugboba in the Aniocha North Local Government formally presented the cash to the joyous women in a brief, but impressive ceremony on Good Friday, April 15,  at Idumu-Ogo within the Council area.

The event was attended by the Chairman of the ward, Mr. Sunday Akaezuwa and notable leaders of the ward that included the former Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Chuks Oseme, former Deputy Chairman of the PDP in Aniocha North, Chief John Adigwu and former Councillor of the ward, Hon. Pius Nwabuisi.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Okonkwo said that the gathering was an opportunity for him to reciprocate the kind gestures of the women extended to him and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the last local Government election in the ward, saying that their role in ensuring victory for him  and that of the party was unprecedented.

Okonkwo commended them for their strong commitment to the PDP in ward 16 and said that their demonstration of love to the party made it possible for him to be at the local Government as their representative, noting that they did the right thing by voting enmass for him at the election.

“If not that you made the right choice, I wouldn’t have been elected by my honourable colleagues to be the leader of the legislative Arm of our local Government,” Hon. Okonkwo stated and urged them to be relentless in their avid commitment to the party, even as he assured them of more dividend of democracy from the Local Government under the Hon. Kevin Okwechime led administration.

The grassroots legislator said that the cash empowerment which he noted will be continuous in as much as he remains their representative in the Local Government, was to add and support their trade, noting that those who are not benefiting at the moment would be taken care of in the next stage of the program, even as he called on them to use the empowerment item judiciously.

Speaking on behalf of the leaders of the ward, Hon. Nwabuisi, commended Hon. Chukwunweike Okonkwo for his steadfastness in seeing to the wellbeing of the people of the ward since his assumption as the Councillor and recalled that last year, Hon Okonkwo singlehandedly provided school uniforms to the pupils of the public primary school in Idumu-Ogo.

The former Councillor, affirmed that Hon. Okonkwo has established and continued to maintain a robust relationship with the people as a result of this people oriented representation.

While calling on him not to depart from the right direction that he is following at the moment, Hon. Nwabuisi stressed the need for women and youths to acquire meaningful skills, saying that the cash presented to them by the leader of the legislative Arm,  was to support whatever skills they must have acquired, even as he cautioned the beneficiaries to be mindful of how and what they spend the money on.

In a chat with cshowcasenews.com, some of the beneficiaries expressed their joy and said that the cash empowerment will go a long way in adding value to their pity trade at the Nkwo Market and at home and prayed to God to continue to guide and protect their councillor, Hon. Okonkwo who they described as a worthy son that has remained humbled and committed to their upliftment.

Highlight was the presentation of the cash envelope by the Leader, Hon Paul Chukwunweike Okonkwo, assisted by Hon. Chuks Oseme, Chief John Adigwu, Hon. Pius Nwabuisi and Hon Queen Ndubuakwu, councillor ward 3 Obomkpa who was amongst the colleagues of the Leader that graced the empowerment ceremony.
