The People of Issele-Uku, the administrative headquarters of Aniocha North Local Government Area in Delta State, has decried the unabated interruptions of the public power supply to the community.
The plight of the community, which could no longer be tolerated, was made known by the Issele-Uku Electricity Committee when they petitioned the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, in Benin City, Edo State.
According to the petition to the Managing Director of the Electricity Distribution Company, on Tuesday August 31, 2021 by the Chairman of the Issele-Uku Electricity Committee, Barr. Ken Mozia, (SAN) and the Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Ayaunor Ojei, the community said that the power interruptions has become a worrisome occurrence that can no longer be ignored by residents of the community, noting that prior to the unabated interruptions, supply to Issele-Uku has been relatively stable with 16 hours arranged service period.
The committee also stated that the 16 hours service period arrangement received overwhelming applause and was highly commended by the Issele-Uku Electricity consumers who they affirmed have remained committed to the payment of electricity bills without any form of coercion.
“However, the current situation is that the community could stay without the supply of electricity by your company for upward of 3 days. And, sometimes, when eventually supplied, it does not last beyond two hours with interruptions at intervals, after which there is another outage for days. This is indeed sad and unacceptable.
“It is very important to state clearly, that since the restoration of electricity power supply to Issele-Uku by BEDC, the power consumers in the community have been so committed to the payment of electricity bills without coercion; a reasonable action that requires equal reciprocation through constant supply of electricity.
“To this end, we crave your indulgence, to intervene appropriately, using your good office to direct that this anomaly be rectified, for the mutual understanding and business harmony that had existed between the good people of Issele-Uku and BEDC.
“We are being hopeful that our report would receive your timely official attention.
“Thanking you in advance for your anticipated cooperation,” the community stated in the petition.
However, cshowcasenews.com correspondent in Issele-Uku reported an appreciable improvement in power supply to the community over the weekend.
Though, it could not be ascertained if the improvement was as a result of the petition by the Issele-Uku Electricity Committee.
