Rt. Hon. Ndudi Godwin Elumelu, a renowned Nigerian politician, is celebrating a milestone birthday today, marking six decades of life, service, and achievements. As an attestation to his enduring legacy, we honour his contributions to the nation, particularly his people in Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency.
Born on February 23, 1965, in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, Elumelu’s journey to prominence began with his academic pursuits. He obtained his West African Secondary School Certificate from Lagos State School of Art and Science in 1986, followed by a National Diploma in Business Administration from Yaba College of Technology in 1989. His academic excellence continued with a degree in Accounting from Edo State University, Ekpoma, in 1993, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the same institution in 2000.
Elumelu’s entry into politics marked the beginning of a remarkable career. He was first elected into the House of Representatives in 2007 and re-elected in 2011. During his tenure, he chaired the House Committee on Power from 2007 to 2010 and the House Committee on Health from 2011 to 2015. His leadership and commitment to his constituents earned him recognition and respect.
As a lawmaker, Elumelu demonstrated exceptional dedication to his duties. His pivotal participation in the power sector investigation several years ago remains impressive. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, has continued to Praise Elumelu’s efforts, stating that his insightful contributions to the nation’s expansion and advancement, particularly in the power and health sectors, are commendable.
Elumelu’s achievements extend beyond his legislative duties. In 2021, he launched an empowerment program that has benefited well over 3456 recipients from his constituency. This initiative showcases his commitment to the welfare and development of his people.
Throughout his career, Elumelu has received numerous accolades. He was awarded the Hollywood and African Prestigious Awards in Los Angeles, United States, as the Best Lawmaker on Constituency Development and Effective Representation and Empowerment Programme. He has also been awarded the best Lawmaker of the Year by Delta Online Publishers Forum, DOPF and he is a multiple Chieftaincy title holder, bestowed on him by various communities in the Country attesting to his love and acceptability.
As Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Elumelu played a crucial role in shaping the nation’s legislative agenda. His leadership and experience have been invaluable assets to the 9th National Assembly.
Elumelu’s impact on his constituents is undeniable. He has attracted various infrastructural projects to Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, transforming the lives of many. His dedication to human capital development has also been remarkable, inspiring a new generation of leaders.
As Elumelu celebrates his 60th birthday, we reflect on his remarkable journey. From his humble beginnings to his rise as a respected politician, his story serves as a tribute to hard work, perseverance, and dedication.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s congratulatory message to Elumelu on his 59th birthday highlights the high esteem in which he is held. The governor praised Elumelu’s sterling accomplishments, noting that his leadership role in the National Assembly has been outstanding.
