Nigeria’s Female Under 19 Cricket Team, the Yellow Greens have been commended for qualifying for the Super 6 round despite losing by 41 runs to South Africa in the last group game of the ongoing ICC Under 19 World Cup in Malaysia.

The Executive Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori gave the commendation in an interview with journalists in Asaba.

Mr Oborevwori said the girls who were making their debut in the biennial championship showed class against their more established side and fought till the end asserting that they were not intimidated by the credentials of their fellow Africa team who are among the top four teams in world ranking.

He said the team had earlier beaten another top four nation New Zealand in the second group game stressing that they must therefore take the experiences garnered into the Super 6 round where they would face the United States of America.

Oborevwori enjoined them to be focused in their next game as they could pull another surprise against the USA.

He also commended the duo of Meme Naomi and Bieni Jessica for their exploits with the Yellow Greens side saying they must continue to fly the flag of Delta State high as they were the states ambassador not only at the National level but the International level.

The Commission Chairman urged them to sustain the tempo as the government and people of Delta State led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori were solidly behind them.
