LSM/Anti Open Grazing Law: Aniocha North Council Boss, Hon Chinye Sensitize Stakeholders, As Council Sets Dec 10 To Commence Full Enforcement

Executive Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government, Hon. Emma Bazim Chinye has met with the Committee and other Critical Stakeholders on Livestocks Management in the Area.

The meeting was held on Friday at the Local Government Event Centre, Issele-Uku.

The Executive Chairman is also the chairman of the Committee on Livestocks Management in the area by virtue of his position, according to the stipulations of the Delta State Livestocks Management/Anti Open Grazing Law.

The meeting was attended by the Local Government Area members of the Committee that includes, the Secretary to the Local Government, the Divisional Police Officers for Issele-Uku and Onicha-Olona Divisions, representatives of the DSS, NSCDC, Immigration and representatives of Traditional Rules in the area.

 

Also at the meeting was President Generals and Community Youth Leaders from the 18 communities in the area, representative of leaders of Herdsmen in all the Communities in Aniocha North, Supervisor of Agriculture and the Head of Agriculture in the Council.

All farmers Association, the Divisional Livestock officer in the area, representative of National butcher Association, and Cattle Dealers/Rearers Association were also at the meeting.

Others that attended the meeting include, Chairman of Community Vigilante Groups, Anti-cult heads in all communities in the area, Anioma Security Watch heads in all the communities, Chairman and members of the Local Government Revenue Taskforce and Chairman and members of Environmental Taskforce as well as the Head of Personnel Management of the Council, Mr. Bartrand Ojeh who is the Secretary of the Committee on Livestocks Management in the area.

Speaking at the meeting, Hon Emma Chinye said it was a meeting geared towards sanitizing the stakeholders on the Delta State Livestock Management/Anti Open Grazing Law No. 11 of 2021.

The Council Chairman noted the importance of the meeting and said it was in a bid by the local government to commence in earnest the full enforcement of the law in Aniocha North according to the directives of the State Government.

Hon Chinye, armed with the law, painstakingly explained in great detail the provisions of the Delta State Livestock Management/Anti Open Grazing Law No. 11 of 2021 in respect to the regulation of Livestock breeding, rearing, marketing and penalties.

While urging the Stakeholders to avail themselves of the opportunity of the meeting to know what the law stipulates on the Management of Livestocks and Anti Open Grazing, in order not to go foul of the law, Hon Chinye warned that ignorance of the law is not by any means an excuse, even as he noted that the implementation of the Law is not a witch hunt, but to bring about peace, unity and progress in Aniocha North.

Questions and contributions were entertained during the interactive session of the meeting where areas of the State law not understood were adequately explained by the Executive Chairman.

He therefore announced the readiness of the Local Government Council to commence the full enforcement of the provisions of the law with effect from Tuesday, December 10, 2024, even as he urged Stakeholders and all residents of the area to cooperate with the Local Government and the Committee as they work according to the law.

At the stakeholders meeting was the Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government Traditional Rulers Committee, His Royal Majesty Obi Nkebakwu Emmanuel Ezedimbu, Obi of Ugboba.
