The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has raised alarm over lack of interest in education by Nigeria youths.

Speaking while presenting Staff of Office to the Obi of Ubulubu in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, HRM Charles Ikechukwu, Governor Oborevwori called for stringent measures to nip the situation in the bud.

Governor Oborevwori was represented at the occasion which took place on Friday, September 27, 2024, by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme.

He said, “We are concerned with a growing pattern of some youths who tend to shun formal education; some drop out of school not for want of sponsorship or care but owing to negative influences of their peers who have equally been negatively impacted by those who do not want to go to school.

“One other unfortunate development is the resort to cultism, which has no meaningful goal other than to wreak violence against rivals, including other anti-social behaviours.

“Those traits are spread across the country but we must nip them in the bud here in Delta State.”

He noted that his administration was “expanding the opportunity for skills acquisition, sound education, effective healthcare services and various forms of empowerment, which can help to channel this youthfulness into positive resources.”

The governor also, congratulated the Obi and the people of Ubulubu asserting, “I warmly congratulate Your Majesty on your emergence as the Obi of Ubulubu Kingdom; we sincerely hope that with your wealth of experience, you will offer inspired leadership to your people.

“Your Majesty is ascending the throne in a much changed era; these are modern times with fresh opportunities and attended challenges.

“We sincerely hope and pray for Your Majesty to reign in the youths of this kingdom and show them the partway to responsible growth, leading to a prosperous future.

“I urge the elites here to help in educating the youths to imbibe discipline, hard work which are necessary ingredients for becoming responsible members of society, to bring pride, honour and dignity to their respective families, state and country.

The Governor appreciated the tremendous contribution of traditional rulers in promoting peace and harmonious relationships among the diverse people residing in the state, assuring that his administration would continue to protect the traditional rulers across the state.

He assured the people of Ubulubu that their request for the construction of the Obomkpa/Ubulubu Road would be looked into owing to the deplorable state of the road.

“I personally passed through the road on my way here and I actually saw for myself that it is not befitting of a community such as this. I want to assure you that this request, especially this particular road which I understand is less than 5km, will be looked into seriously.”

The Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government Area, Hon. Emmanuel Bazim Chinye at the occasion, congratulated the people of Ubulubu Kingdom for the peaceful transition and the continued regards for their native laws and customs.

Chinye urged the people of Ubulubu Kingdom to accord the Obi respect and rally round him with unity of purpose to surmount developmental challenges.

“In our collective quest for overall peace and sustainable development in Aniocha North, I once again cease the ample opportunity of this occasion to solicite for the understanding and cooperation of all critical stakeholders and relevant authorities to join hands with us in our genuine efforts in progress geared towards restoration of stability in the Obiship Stool of Idumuje-Ugboko and Issele-Asagba Communities for obvious reasons,” Hon. Chinye said.

The Council Boss, profoundly appreciated the State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Francis Oborevwori for his eventual approval that not only made the occasion possible , but for considering it worthy to visit the Local Government Area twice within an interval of one week, describing it as a demonstration of love for the People of Aniocha North.

Earlier, in an address presented on behalf of Ubulubu Kingdom by the Secretary, Obi-in-Council, Hon. Isaac Okoh, the people commended the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, for developing different parts of the state.
