In a significant boost to the academic resources of the University of Delta, Agbor, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, has lauded Prof. Wilfred Ukpere, a distinguished Nigerian-based South African Professor of Human Relation Management at the University of Johannesburg, for his generous donation of multimillion-naira worth of management textbooks to the institution.
Prof. Chiemeke expressed her heartfelt gratitude, emphasizing that Prof. Ukpere’s remarkable gesture exemplifies a commendable “think home” strategy. She praised the professor for remembering his homeland, Nigeria, and his commitment to enhancing the academic resources of his hometown university. Prof. Chiemeke urged other professionals in the diaspora to follow Prof. Ukpere’s example by giving back to their roots and contributing to the development of educational institutions in their home countries.
She further noted that the donated books would play a crucial role in advancing the university’s mission in the areas of research, teaching, and learning. “This donation is not just a gift; it’s an investment in the future of our students and the broader academic community. These textbooks will be instrumental in shaping the minds of the next generation of leaders and thinkers,” she added.
The donation was facilitated through Mr. Ewere Okonta, a social media influencer and lecturer in the Department of Business Administration at the University of Delta, Agbor. Mr. Okonta represented Prof. Ukpere at the presentation ceremony, where the textbooks and journals covering various management disciplines—ranging from Business, Finance, Psychology, and Operations to Change Management, Entrepreneurship, and Human Relations Management—were handed over to the university’s management.
The high point of the ceremony was the formal presentation of the books to Prof. Stella Chiemeke, who received them on behalf of the students, staff, and management of the university.
The event was witnessed by key university officials, including the Registrar, Barr. Omagbemi; the Bursar, Mr. Ikeogwu; and the University Librarian, Dr. Mrs. Okonoko amongst others.
