Major roads and markets in Asaba and Okpanam in the Oshimili South and Oshimili North Local Government Areas of Delta State were, on Monday, taken over by aggrieved motorcycle riders protesting the death of their colleagues.
Eyewitness said the group of motorcycle riders took the streets in anger, destroying properties.
Businesses around the popular Midwifery market in Okpanam and the Delta State Post Primary Education Board along Summit Road Asaba were also attacked by the protesters.
According to the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, two motorcycle riders died on Sunday during an enforcement by the State Task Force.
The police spokesman also said that some police officers have been deployed to quell the protest.
“There was a violent protest this morning by Okada riders who had issue last night with the state task force that led to the death of two persons.
“They mobilised in their numbers this morning destroying properties and beating people, hence our men were deployed to control the situation before it turns to something else,” Edafe wrote in a post on his X handle.
