It was celebration of excellence in Information Management, uncommon leadership capacity, exceptional human relations, verifiable achievement and impact, on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 when members of the media community in Delta State, joined Management and staff of the State Ministry of Information to honour the immediate past Honourable Commissioner for information in the State, Mr. Charles Aniagwu in a send forth party.
The grand event held at the prestigious JACE-DARL Hotel & Suits, Okpanam, within Asaba Delta State capital, was chaired by a former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Sir Austin Mowah.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Delta State council, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Delta State Chapter, Delta Online Publishers Forum, (DOPF) as well as immediate past media handles of the just ended administration in the state, graced the send forth party.
In his opening speech, Sir Mowah siad that Mr Charles Aniagwu had done more than other commissioners that served in terms of achievements in the Ministry.
He maintained that Aniagwu’s legacies will forever be remembered in the Ministry just as he prayed for him to be elevated to a higher level in his political career.
In his contribution, the Functioning Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Lucky Omokri affirmed that Mr Charles Aniagwu had tremendously touched the lives of the staff and Youth Corp members that served and still serving in the ministry.
Omokri also disclosed that the former commissioner also extended his love and care to families of staff.
Similarly, the Permanent Secretary in the Civil Service Commission, Mr Frederick Oyoro who represented the Head of Service said that the good testimonies about Aniagwu spoke volumes about his excellent people-oriented disposition.
On his part, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, the immediate past Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, eulogized Aniagwu’s tact in handling challenges, making reference to his role as a presidential spokesperson, where Aniagwu was rated best among others.
He said that the former commissioner demonstrated quality and capacity, adding that he has the body of a young man and the wisdom of an old man.
The Public Relations Officer in the Job and Wealth Creation Bureau, Mrs Gertrude Onyekachukwu-Ute, praised the former commissioner for being people-oriented.
Also an Assistant Director and the Editor in the Ministry, Mr Churchill Oyowe, said that the former commissioner was not only accessible, but had institutionalized what he called liberal welfarism, adding that there was no impossibility with him.
The Chairman of Asaba Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Comrade Dominic Adewole, who spoke on behalf of other chapels said that Mr Charles Aniagwu has been appointed as a life commissioner of NUJ Delta State.
The Chairman of the State Information chapel, Mr Kenneth Obieh, said that what he admired most about Aniagwu was his problem solving skills.
Responding, Mr Charles Aniagwu said that he never knew that he would be honour in a wonderful way and thanked the staff of the Ministry for their cooperation and support that led to his success stories.
Aniagwu equally thanked staff of the Ministry for the support and cooperation they accorded him but called for the sustenance of the welfare arrangement he had put in place.
He frowned at punishment-oriented approach to tackling negligence of staff while calling on officers to be alive to their responsibilities in their work environment.
While praising former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his achievements, he assured that the present Governor, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori would do more, and urged Deltans to give the new governor the necessary support to take Delta State to greater heights.
