Urhobos in the United Kingdom have renewed their support for the governorship aspiration of the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly and National Deputy Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for the 2023 general elections.
Consequently, they have urged the Delta Central DC-23 to unanimously adopt and recommend Oborevwori to the state Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the choice of the senatorial district for the governorship election in the state.
As a follow up, they have also implored the PDP to present Oborevwori as its candidate for the election in the state.
The Urhobos, in the UK, in a statement issued at the end of their 2022 maiden meeting, acknowledged the growing popularity and acceptability of the Speaker’s candidacy in the three senatorial districts of the state.
The Urhobos, under the aegis of Urhobo Diaspora for Good Governance Initiative (UDGGI), in the statement signed by the group’s Director-General, Mr. John Ewhubare Siakpere and Secretary-General, Dr. Richard Stephen, noted with unassailable confidence that Oborevwori would convincingly defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and deliver the state to PDP.
They acknowledged the brilliant and colourful outing of Oborevwori’s team at the recently held end of year gathering of the Delta Political Vanguard (DPV) in Agbor and the mega rally of PDP in Asaba, adding that it had become obvious that the Speaker, as a leading aspirant, was steadily cruising to victory.
UDGGI urged DC-23 headed by PDP’s Deputy National Organising Secretary, Chief Ighoyota Amori, to pick Oborevwori over the five cleared aspirants for the governorship election.
The group maintained that the Speaker was the best of the five aspirants and urged DC-23 to summon courage and recommend him to Governor Okowa and PDP as the choice of the Delta Central for the governorship election.
“We urge the DC-23 to waste no further time to endorse and present Oborevwori, the man, whom the cap fits, to Governor Okowa and the leadership and supporters of PDP at all levels, as the undisputed choice of Delta Central for the 2023 governorship election.
“In the same vein, we also implored PDP leaders and supporters to queue behind and support Oborevwori as a suitable successor to our amiable Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa. Oborevwori has the potentials, charisma and leadership acumen to continue with the vision and development strides of the incumbent Chief Executive of the state”, the group added.
